Sound Adjustment Can Make a World of Difference

The sound post is in some languages called the spirit of the violin. The smallest adjustments of the sound post greatly alter the behavior and responsiveness of an instrument. In some luthier traditions these adjustments are made with the changing of the seasons. Other luthiers insist on maintaining the same position of a sound post regardless . In my experience and working with the feedback of artists, I have found that the smallest taps and movements can change an instrument dramatically.

The bridge of the instrument is another major component of how vibrations are able to travel around an instrument. There are many components involved in the fitting and shaping of a violin bridge that will ultimately determine how the instrument will respond. By carving away minimal sections of wood we are able to determine how much information is being transmitted to the instrument and how much brilliance of sound can come through. Sometimes fitting a new bridge can make it feel like you’re playing a completely different instrument. Many times violinist come and complain about their struggles with their instruments and are amazed at what new strings and a proper set up can accomplish.
